Joint Custody

Pronounced: joynt KUSS-tuh-dee


What it means: Joint custody means both parents share responsibility. This can include making decisions (legal custody) and/or time with the child (physical custody). It doesn’t always mean 50/50.

Example: “We have joint custody, so we both make school and medical decisions for our son.”

When it's used: During custody planning or final custody orders.
