Dismissal

Pronounced: dis-MISS-uhl

What it means: A dismissal means the divorce case is closed without a final decision. This can happen if both people change their minds or the court decides it can’t move forward.

Example: “We decided to work things out, so we filed for dismissal.”

When it's used: At any point before the final decree, if the case is being dropped.
