Pronounced: HEER-ing


What it means: A hearing is a meeting with the judge where each person can share information, ask for decisions, or respond to the other side. It’s less formal than a trial, but still part of the court process.

Example: “We had a hearing to decide temporary custody until the divorce was final.”

When it's used: At multiple points during the case, especially for temporary decisions.
