Adjournment

Pronounced: uh-JURN-ment

What it means: An adjournment is when a court hearing or meeting is delayed or moved to a later date. It doesn’t mean your case is canceled—just that it's been pushed back.

Example: “The judge granted an adjournment so I could get more time to find a lawyer.”

When it's used: During court hearings or trials if more time is needed.
