What it means: This is the official lawyer listed in the court’s records as representing you. Once your lawyer files a notice, they become your attorney of record.

Example: “Once my attorney of record filed paperwork, the court sent all the documents to her.”

When it's used: As soon as a lawyer is hired and formally enters your case.
