Appeal

Pronounced: uh-PEEL


What it means: An appeal is when you ask a higher court to review a decision made by the judge in your case. You’re saying, “I think something went wrong and want it looked at again.”

Example: “I didn’t agree with the alimony decision, so I filed an appeal.”

When it's used: After the judge has made a final decision and you want it reviewed.
