If your ex says they’re not paying child support, here's what you should know and do:
Child Support is a Legal Obligation
Child support is court-ordered and legally enforceable.
It is not optional; non-payment can lead to legal consequences.
Contact Your Local Child Support Agency
Every state has an office that handles child support enforcement.
They can help you collect payments, even if your ex is refusing.
Enforcement Actions May Include:
Wage Garnishment: His employer can be required to withhold the amount directly from his paycheck.
Tax Refund Interception: Federal and state tax refunds can be taken.
License Suspension: Driver’s license, professional licenses, and even hunting/fishing licenses can be suspended.
Bank Levies: The state can seize funds directly from his bank account.
Passport Denial: If arrears are substantial, his passport application can be denied.
Document Everything
Keep records of all communication where he states he won’t pay.
Save any proof of missed payments.
File a Motion for Contempt in Family Court
