The Registry Fairy, Explained

There's a moment in divorce — somewhere between the paperwork and the packing and the figuring out what you're keeping and what you're leaving behind — where someone realizes they need a lot of things. A full set of dishes. Towels that are theirs. A lamp for a room that didn't exist six months ago.

That's what Fresh Starts Registry is for. But the Registry Fairy is something a little different.

So what is the Registry Fairy?

The Registry Fairy is exactly what it sounds like: someone who shows up, quietly, and sends a gift off someone's Fresh Starts Registry. No announcement. No obligation. Just a small, generous act from someone who wanted to do something kind for a stranger going through something hard.

It started informally — the way most good things do. People kept asking if there was a way to give back, a way to show up for someone they'd never meet but whose story they recognized. So we started keeping a list. And the Registry Fairy was born.

How does the Registry Fairy work?

If you've built a Fresh Starts Registry, you can submit your registry link to the Registry Fairy. That's it. Your registry goes into the mix, and a Registry Fairy — either from the Fresh Starts team or from our wider community of volunteers — may choose to purchase something from it.

There are no guarantees. There's no timeline. You won't necessarily know if a Fairy visited your registry, though sometimes the evidence speaks for itself.

Submitting is completely optional. It doesn't cost anything. And it doesn't obligate you to anything — not even a thank you note, because most of the time, there's no one to thank.

Who are the Registry Fairies?

Some Registry Fairies are part of the Fresh Starts team. Others are members of the broader FSR community — everyday people who wanted to do something small and meaningful for someone starting over. Community Fairies are unaffiliated volunteers, not FSR staff, and we're transparent about that.

If you opt in to having your registry shared with community Fairies, we recommend building your registry through Amazon, where your shipping address stays private.

Why does the Registry Fairy exist?

Because divorce is expensive. Because starting over from scratch — new apartment, new kitchen, new everything — costs more than most people talk about. Because sometimes the most powerful thing isn't advice or a hotline or a resource guide. Sometimes it's just knowing that someone, somewhere, saw you and decided to show up.

The Registry Fairy doesn't fix anything. But she doesn't have to. That's not really what this is about.

Can I submit my registry to the Registry Fairy?

Yes. If you've built a Fresh Starts Registry, head to our registry page and scroll to the Registry Fairy section. Drop your link, tell us whether you'd like to be included with community Fairies, and then let it go. The magic — if it comes — will find you.
