Podcast Spotlight: The Conscious Divorce Podcast

There’s no shortage of divorce content that tells you you’ll be okay. The Conscious Divorce Podcast is more interested in how you get there, one decision at a time.

The show is hosted by Justin Milrad, a Certified Divorce Coach, MBA, and financial planner, and the author of You 2.0: Divorce, A Better Way Forward. He’s been through divorce himself and has since coached more than 150 people through theirs. The podcast is built around helping listeners make clearer, more strategic decisions before, during, and after divorce.

New episodes come out weekly, as both audio and full video, and usually run 45 to 60 minutes. Some are solo episodes; others bring in family law attorneys, mediators, CDFAs, therapists, and physicians. Topics include co-parenting, finances and settlements, mediation versus litigation, choosing an attorney, gray divorce, addiction and mental health in families, and rebuilding your identity once it’s over. Most listeners are parents, professionals, business owners, and adults over 50: people with real stakes in the outcome who want a plan, not just sympathy.

Where to start

If you’re in the middle of it, Milrad suggests starting with “Don’t Choose the Wrong Lawyer.”

Choosing an attorney often feels like a guess made under pressure, and it’s one of the decisions that most shapes what follows: your costs, your stress, how much conflict you live with, and what your kids go through. The episode walks through what to ask in a first consultation, which red flags tend to signal an expensive fight, and why the most aggressive lawyer isn’t always the one looking out for you.

There’s also a free companion resource, the Consumer’s Guide to Choosing the Right Divorce Attorney, which you can bring along to every consultation.

You may still feel lost at this step. You’ll just know you aren’t the first, and you’ll have a list of questions in hand.
