Unfuck Your Parenting: How to Raise Feminist, Compassionate, Responsible, and Generally Non-Shitty Kids
Young people need to learn to stand up against every kind of oppression, respect boundaries and consent, and gain self-compassion while also navigating money, friends, sex, and school. How can you prepare children and teens to find joy and stability as they cope with uncertainty, violence, and disaster, especially when your own coming-of-age lessons weren't so thoughtfully taught? Parents and therapists Dr. Faith G. Harper and Bonnie Scott have written a parenting guide for the 21st century that is a must-read for people with children of any age, from infancy to adulthood. Drawing from their experiences raising diverse, politically active young people, this book will help you bring up a new generation with tools to change the world for the better-all while maintaining your own separate identity and relationships, and without losing your mind.
A little about Bonnie…
I'm a therapist in private practice where I work with people ages 14 and older. I specialize in relationships of all types (with others, with ourselves, with substances, with society). I am feminist and I am LGBTQ affirming as well as sex-positive and kink affirming. I work to help people recognize and communicate their desires without shame or judgement.
I work in the Relational Cultural Theory framework which asserts we are all doing the best we can in the relationships we exist within. That may be with ourselves, with others close to us, or to society at large. Through this framework, we look for patterns that show places a client can make real and lasting relational changes in their lives.
I am a feminist therapist. I am working hard to decolonize therapy, to be antiracist, to be a vocal advocate for LGBTQ people, and to make therapy available and approachable.
