Book Writing: Week 6

Week 6 of writing Divorce Happens is IN THE BOOKS

For those just joining us — hi, hello, welcome — Jenny and I are writing a book together.

It's called Divorce Happens: A Compassionate Guide to Starting Fresh, it's published by Sheldon Press, and it comes out August 24th, 2027. We are so proud of it and also slightly unhinged from writing it, which feels correct.

Every week we're dropping in to tell you how it's going. The important stuff, obviously.

This week ended with a little in-person beach trip! Jenny is visiting from Scotland and we took the opportunity to do a little mental reset on the beach — perks of living on an island. We marvel at the fact that two years ago, we came to the same beach and sent prayers into the Long Island Sound for a book deal, and now here we are, working away at our beloved book.

thing we learned
We just keep laughing about how different our writing methods are! Olivia is more of a collage-writer (much like her art), and Jenny is more chronological.
favorite lines this week
Jenny
"Those voices that come from your mother and your first boyfriend and the ads you watched between episodes of Boy Meets World and Sabrina the Teenage Witch — and heck, even from Boy Meets World (you all remember how Topanga gave up Harvard for Corey and that was celebrated??? Concerning) — they play a very important role in making you the you you are today, the you you present to the world."
Olivia
"A ritual can be watching She's All That in bed while scribbling in a notebook with a red pencil. It can be standing in front of your indoor plants and saying hi to them out loud — actually out loud, actually hi — because they are alive and growing and so are you and that deserves to be acknowledged."
